property and major contracts division proposes to engage a design and construct contractor to undertake infrastructure upgrades at the brisbane immigration transit accommodation bita facility. it is planned that the works will commence in december 2019 and be completed in march 2020. recent increases in the bita detainee population, a trend towards a higher security cohort, and subsequent changes to the site operating model have driven the requirement for the following proposed infrastructure upgrades: retrofit installation of an anti-climb barrel fence topper to the existing bita perimeter fence approximately 250 linear metres; installation of new pedestrian gates in existing bita fence lines; and construction of new covered structures over main staff thoroughfare between the site processing centre and administration buildings.
